Strengthening the foreshore and renewing connections along the water.
Enter Building Group was appointed by Northern Beaches Council to upgrade the existing seawall at Bayview foreshore and renew the shared pedestrian and cyclist footpath. The $1.2 million project combined structural reinforcement, drainage improvements and public domain works within an environmentally sensitive waterfront setting. Following bulk excavation, more than 120 linear metres of mass concrete footings were installed to support over 200 sandstone logs. Subsoil drainage, timber and composite beams, and extensions to two existing stormwater pipes formed part of the works, alongside removal and reinstatement of a permanent survey mark.
The adjoining concrete footpath was renewed, including new hobs and soft landscaping to integrate the upgraded seawall with its surroundings. EBG worked with Council on value engineering and cost-effective material procurement, while protecting existing infrastructure, including Ausgrid light poles.
Environmental management included erosion controls, silt curtains and testing and treatment measures for potential acid sulfate soils. Secure work areas, pedestrian management and traffic controls during approved road occupancy hours helped minimise disruption to the surrounding community, including the nearby tennis club and scouts.
