Cooper Park Erosion Control

Moving 5,000 tonnes to restore a failed embankment.
The Cooper Park project addressed a failed embankment, sandstone retaining wall and adjoining walkway that had been further affected by heavy rainfall and erosion. Restricted access presented a significant logistical challenge. EBG developed a specialised material-handling system using conveyor belts and a bespoke chute to transport more than 5,000 tonnes of basalt into the work area. The material was used to fill gabion baskets and Reno mattresses, creating a robust stabilisation system for the embankment.
To complement these structural works and maintain the natural character of Cooper Park and Figtree Lane Reserve, EBG imported more than 150 tonnes of sandstone boulders and arranged them in terraces across the slope. The works also included a new drainage pipe, sandstone headwall, erosion-control matting, timber fencing with chainwire mesh, turfing and landscape reinstatement.
Construction was programmed around weather forecasts to minimise runoff and prevent further erosion. EBG also worked with Council and the project engineer to develop cost-effective, value-engineered solutions. Despite the scale of material movement, constrained access and tight programme, the project was successfully completed within six months.
