Rebuilding resilience along an exposed harbour edge.
The Dumaresq Reserve seawall required urgent rectification after extensive sections failed due to ongoing erosion and wave action. EBG was engaged to remove the damaged structure and construct a durable replacement suited to the demanding marine environment.
The new seawall was founded on a deep concrete footing beam installed below sea level. Constant water pumping was required to maintain a dry and safe working area while excavation, preparation and concrete works were completed.
A new sandstone-log seawall was then constructed with a reinforced concrete backing system. Stainless-steel dowels were installed through the capping stones to strengthen the structure, followed by backfilling and turf reinstatement to integrate the completed works into the reserve.
During the early stages, construction could only proceed within limited low-tide windows. Careful programming and daily coordination was essential to maximise each available work period and maintain the construction timeframe.
