Shaped by light, crafted for modern family living.
Located within a heritage conservation area in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs, this alterations and additions project transformed an existing home while responding sensitively to its surrounding streetscape. The works required careful consideration of contextual fit, building scale and the integration of new architectural elements with the retained dwelling.
The home’s east-to-west orientation previously restricted natural light from reaching the ground-floor living areas. Through carefully formed internal spaces and stronger connections between functional zones, the residence was reconfigured to draw daylight deep into the home and create a series of bright, interconnected living environments.
A contrasting dark façade brings together a collection of contemporary architectural forms, while a compact outdoor entertaining area and considered landscaping strengthen the relationship between the interior and exterior. A bespoke cantilevered carport was also constructed with minimal support posts, allowing unrestricted movement around the vehicle while complementing the existing building.
The result is a balanced and enduring family home that overcomes its challenging orientation through light, spatial connection and carefully executed architectural detailing.
